Art at REMI

On Nov. 30th 2011, I came home from a trip to Nigeria. Before travelling, I had been working on a small project. The project is about how art can help stimulate and create a better learning environment, in schools in Africa. I got in contact with a private school called REMI, located in Yola, in the North-eastern part of Nigeria. The school is for children with disabilities and special needs. REMI welcomed my offer of free decoration, with open arms. I wrote to different funds, applying for donations to complete the project, but unfortunately they didn’t find my project interesting enough. Nevertheless, I decided to go ahead with my project anyway.

When I arrived at my home away from home in Yola, I hooked up with friend and fellow artist Mona-Lizay. He offered to help me with this project, and followed me to REMI.

We started out decorating 2 classrooms and moved on to create artwork on a building gable. This is the result!
